Disney’s Moderate Resorts

Disney has 4 different classifications of their resorts: Value, Moderate, Deluxe and Deluxe Villas. This post will focus on the Moderate resorts. There are currently 5 moderate resorts : Disney’s Caribbean Beach, Disney’s Coronado Springs, The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness, Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside and Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter.

The Moderate resorts have a toned down Disney character theme and tend to be themed more to the area they are supposedly based. In Disney’s Caribbean Beach you will find a beach complete with hammock and sand whereas at Disney’s Port Orleans -Riverside you feel right at home on the bayou with the river that flows through the resort. There are still nods to characters throughout the resorts but they are not as prominent as you find in the value resorts.

The resorts have more dining options with a quick service as well as a bar or sit down restaurant, more than often, all three. It means that you can relax a little more in your resort without having to travel elsewhere. As with all resorts, they have a gift shop selling merchandise, essentials you may have forgotten and some light snacks and drinks.

The Disney standard rooms usually has 2 queen sized beds as well as a small safe, a fridge and plenty of storage, all rooms also have a TV for when you need a little quiet time. Disney TV shows many classic Disney movies, Disney cartoons and an information page showing opening/closing times as well as extra magic hours. Many of the resorts also offer a family suite, which is suitable for a larger family. All of the resorts have at least 1 large pool with lots of seating for when you need a little break from the parks. Almost all of the moderate resort’s pools feature a water slide. The furnishings in the moderate resort rooms are a little nicer than those in the value resorts and there is much more variety.

Disney offers more transportation links from the moderate resorts. It does offer the usual Disney bus to get you to the parks and other resorts, but you also have the opportunity to use the Disney boats as well as the Skyliner system at Disney’s Caribbean Beach. The Disney boats will enable you to get from Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts to Disney Springs. There is also a boat from Disney’s Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom. The only resort with only bus transportation is Disney’s Coronado Springs. As always, you can take your own car (or rental) but it will cost you $20 per night to park at a moderate resort.
